What Photography means to me.........
I found this on a forum I frequent. It was a discussion of what photography is and means to each photographer, and the words describe it perfectly for me.....so I wanted to share it here........(even though this is mostly a picture blog....although I feel like it is evolving into a whole bunch of things!)
{This is posted here as a quote....the words are so perfect and descriptive of what I feel....therefore I chose to enter this here as a quote rather than rewrite it in my own words}
"To me, photography is an art of observation.
It's about finding something interesting
in an ordinary place...
I've found it has little to do with the things you see
and everything to do with the way you see them.
There is only you and your camera.
The limitations in your photography are in yourself,
for what we see is what we are.
Photography records the emotion written on the human face, the beauty of the earth and skies that man has inherited, and the wealth and confusion man has created. It is a major force in explaining humanity
What you have caught in your photo is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.
You need less imagination to be a painter because you can invent things.
But in photography everything is so ordinary; it takes a lot of looking before you learn to see the extraordinary.
It's never been about the gear.
It's always been about seeing something, knowing how you want it to look, and making it so.
Making it so is the easy part; seeing it in the first place is what makes a photographer.
Powers of observation are everything. Snapping a camera is trivial.
Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.
The greatest joy to me is you get to share a captured moment with other people.
I see something special and show it to the camera.
A picture is produced.
The moment is held until someone sees it.
Then it is theirs."
